Abstract

1445141 Optical fibre bundles OLYMPUS KOGAKU KOGYO KK 26 Sept 1973 [9 Oct 1972] 45173/73 Heading C1M An apparatus for producing optical fibre bundles includes a holding block 6 for holding fibres which is located within a guide block 1 and a push rod 8 having a lower rounded end which is mounted so that it can be moved between an upper retracted position and a lower holding position within the block, and also to be pressed on to the fibres while simultaneously being moved along the fibres and then raised for the return movement. The movement between the retracted and holding position is achieved by a motor 15 acting on the rod through a rack 14 connected to a slotted arm 13. The application of pressure and horizontal movement is brought about by the rotation of a shaft 44 on which are mounted cam discs 43, 45. The cam disc 43 has two control surfaces a, b which act through a follower roller 41 carried by an arm 39, 40 pivoted at 42 to lift the push rod from intimate contact with the fibres or allow it to press down on to the fibres. A cylindrical weight 27 attached to the push rod together with a spring 28 provide the necessary pressure. The other cam disc 45 is provided with an eccentric pin 46, which acts through rod 48, rack 49 pinion 50, shaft 51 and carriage 25 to cause the horizontal movement.
