1,093,890. Automatic control of gas furnaces. A. BRECKA. May 2, 1966, No. 19129/66. Heading G3R. A specified electrical system automatically controls the pressure of gas supplied to a. furnace so as to maintain it at one or other of two values according to whether furnace temperature is above or below a predetermined temperature and thereby tend to maintain the predetermined furnace temperature. As described, deviations of the pressure of gas supplied to a furnace from a value selected by the setting of a member 11 on a rotary pressure responsive device 1 causes operation of one or other of two switches 9, 10 which control relays 4, 5 so that a servomotor 3 is run in the appropriate direction to restore the pressure to the selected value by adjustment of a gas supply valve 19 through gearing 18. When furnace temperature rises above a predetermined value, a pyrometer 20 causes operation of a changeover switch 12 so that, after a delay determined by a switch 13, servomotor 3 is operated to close valve 19 until gas pressure reaches and is maintained at a lower value determined by a member 15 operating a switch 14. When furnace temperature falls again, control by member 11 is automatically restored. Switches 7 and 8, operated by a member 6 coupled to valve 19, prevent further operation of servomotor 3 in the wrong sense when valve 19 is fully open or closed, and a warning light 16 is operated when the valve is fully open.
