Abstract

[Also in Division H2] An electrical switch responsive to the pressure on the outlet side of an electrically-operated fuel gas valve controls the setting of the valve through a solid-state relay to maintain the outlet pressure within a desired range. The pressure at the outlet of a fuel gas burner valve 12, Fig.2, is applied through a passage 40, Fig.4, to a flexible diaphragm 37 operating a two-way switch 49 against a spring 57 so that if the gas pressure rises or falls to a predetermined extent above or below a predetermined value, switch 49 closes its contacts to trigger a silicon controlled rectifier to energize a single-phase induction motor 23 which, through a rack and pinion 19, increases or decreases the opening of a valve 14 as necessary to restore the pressure between the limits which are adjustable by screws 55, 56. Operation of the motor in the appropriate direction is ensured by a change-over switch (not shown) operated by a member 59 when switch 49 passes an intermediate position between its contacts. A limit switch (not shown) cuts off tfie electrical supply when the valve is fully open. If the electrical supply fails, an electromagnetic clutch 24 between motor 23 and rack and pinion 19 is de-energized so that valve 14 is closed by springs 15.
