Abstract

1430408 Burner controllers GOSUDARSTVEN N I I PROEKT INST "GIPRONIIGAZ" 13 June 1973 28044/73 Heading F4T Apparatus for controlling operation of spaceheating burners has an electromagnetic fuel gas valve 3, a device 20 to continually generate high voltage pulses at ignition spark gaps 9, a programming relay 10 having normally open contacts 11 in series with normally closed contacts 12 to jointly control valve 3 and device 20, an ambient temperature sensor 2, a step-down transformer 14 having its primary 29 in parallel with valve 3, an electromagnetic relay 15 having normally open contacts 17 in parallel with contacts 12, and a plurality of heat sensors 4 responsive to heat from respective burners and conjointly controlling energization of relay 15 from the secondary 22 of transformer 14. On first connecting the apparatus to an A.C. supply by closing switch 26, a red light 27 is energized via normally closed contacts 18 of relay 15. Upon energization of relay 10, contacts 11 close immediately and after a delay contacts 12 open and contacts 13 close. Thus when sensor 2 senses that heat is required, contacts 11 of relay 10 close to energize device 20, which operates contacts 21 to intermittently energize ignition transformer 5 throughout normal burner operation, and to energize transformer 14 which through normally closed flashback sensors 23 operates an electromagnetic relay 24 to open valve 3 via contact 25. If ignition is achieved within the delay of relay 10, sensors 4 close to operate relay 15 whereby red light 27 goes out and green light 28 comes on, the valve 3 and device 20 are maintained energized via contacts 17 and the circuit to bell 30 is disabled by opening of normally closed contacts 19. If ignition is not obtained within said time delay, contacts 12 open to de-energize valve 3 and ignition transformer 5 and contacts 13 energize bell 30. Sensors 4 have some time delay before opening following a flame-out of the corresponding burner, so that any short-term flame-out does not resultinshutdown, the relevant burner or burners being reignited by ignition transformer 5. A prolonged flame-out results in de-energization of relay 15 causing valve 3 to close, bell 30 to ring, green light 28 to go out and red light 27 to come on. The normally closed flashback sensors 23 have a time response faster than sensors 4 and a flashback results in de-energization of relay 24 and thus opening of contacts 25 and closing of valve 3 so that the opened sensor 23 closes again and valve 3 opens again. Momentary flashbacks thus result in closure of valve 3 followed by reignition whereas persistent flashbacks or other prolonged malfunctions result in sensors 4 opening leading to shut down as above. In an alternative form, Fig. 1, (not shown) sensors 23, relay 24 and contacts 25 are omitted and sensors 4 are arranged to respond also to flashback, short-term flame-out or flashback resulting in re-ignition and long-term flame-out or flashback resulting in shut down as above.
