Abstract

728,302. Controlling gas burners. SEVILLE, J. R., and SPOONER FOOD MACHINERY ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. Aug. 6, 1953 [Sept. 11, 1952], No. 22808/52. Class 75 (1). Control means for a burner adapted to be supplied with gas at either a high or low rate comprises a first relay 11 which, when energized, energizes both an igniter 12 and a second relay 13 which opens an electrically operated valve 14 supplying gas at a low rate and closes a contact 13a in the operating circuit of a second valve 18 supplying gas at a high rate, the opening of the second valve 18 taking place when the first relay 11 is de-energized and means being provided for automatically interrupting all the circuits when necessary, for example in cases of flame or air supply failure or opening of an inspection door. The first relay 11 is energized by a push button 8 and closes contacts 11a, 11b for energizing the second relay 13 and the igniter 12 respectively and opens contacts 11c in the circuit to the high rate gas valve 18. The second relay 13 then closes contacts 13b to open the low rate fuel valve 14. The burner flame closes a switch 15 to energize a third relay 16 which closes contacts 16a in a circuit for energizing the second relay 13 independently of the first relay 11 and the push button 8. When the latter is released therefore the igniter is de-energized but the low rate valve 14 remains open and the contact 11c of the first relay 11 closes to complete the circuit to the high rate valve 18 by way of an oven thermostat 17. The electric supply to the control circuits described is controlled by a switch 7 actuated by an oven inspection door, and by a contact closed by a delay action relay 6 energized by a switch 5 actuated by the air flowing to the burner from a fan controlled by a contactor 2. A two-way switch 1 in one position energizes the fan contactor 2 and in its other position connects the supply to a switch 3 which is actuated by the main gas tap and controls an alarm device 4; if the fan is switched off with the gas tap on the alarm device is energized. Specifications 694,181 and 702,890 are referred to.
