Abstract

1480947 Control of burners JOHNSON SERVICE CO 26 Nov 1974 [7 Dec 1973] 51192/74 Heading F4T A control system for a burner comprises a pilot burner with a valve 47 and a spark gap 12, 13 with an associated spark ignition circuit and flame detecting electrodes 31, 35, a pulse generating circuit 34 which generates pulses at a faster rate when a flame is detected to switch on a S.C.R. 39 and a relay 21 controlled by the S.C.R. which closes switch 21B for the main burner solenoid valve 45 and opens switch 21A for the igniter when a flame is detected. Closing of a thermostat switch THS feeds A.C. power to the pilot valve to open it and to the ignition circuit through normally closed switch 21A such that a pilot flame is lit and main burner valve consequently opened. If the flame or a circuit component fails then the main burner valve is closed and ignition of a pilot flame is again attempted. In a second embodiment the relay 21 is replaced by the solenoid of the main burner valve and the ignition circuit is arranged to cut itself off when a flame is lit and to attempt relighting if the flame goes out. A third embodiment is similar to the second except that a D.C. power supply is used and an inverter and a manually resettable warp switch are included in the circuit. A fourth embodiment is similar to the first but uses D.C. power with an inverter and a warp switch included as in the third embodiment.
