Abstract
1,093,726. Mould and core materials. METALLWERK PLANSEE A.G. Nov. 22, 1965 [Dec. 10, 1964], No. 49423/65. Addition to 1,079,975. Heading B3F. A permanent mould for use in casting metal is made of a material sintered from finely divided metallic and oxide-ceramic components of high melting point such as finely dispersed Mo and/or Wo and an oxide-ceramic consisting of finely dispersed zirconia and containing stabilising additions of calcium or magnesium oxide. Moulds of this material are made by intimately mixing the finely divided metallic and oxide-ceramic components, pressing the mixed material to a desired mould shape, and subsequently sintering the material. The formed mould may be machined to final dimensions and in the case of large moulds for example, as used in centrifugal casting the mould may be constructed in parts which are subsequently screwed together. To improve the surface of these moulds part of the metallic constituent at the surface may be removed by pickling in hot aqua regia.
