Abstract
1290887 Sintered magnetic alloys RAYTHEON CO 5 Nov 1969 [22 Nov 1968] 54298/69 Headings C7A and C7D A magnetic material consists, apart from impurities, of cobalt and samarium in amounts between the proportions corresponding to SmCo 5 and Sm 2 Co 7 . The material may be made by melting the constituents together (e.g. under an inert gas such as He), casting and coating the melt, grinding the ingot, compacting the powder in the presence of a magnetic field and preferably with vibration during compaction. The magnet so formed may then be demagnetized by a reverse magnetic field, sintering at about 1100C. in an inert atmosphere (e.g. for about 1 hour) and then cooling to room temperature. The magnet is then remagnetized in the same direction as used in the compacting step or with reversed polarity.
