Abstract
1,090,558. Extruding. HYDRAULIK G.m.b.H. Oct. 28, 1965 [Nov. 10, 1964], No. 45741/65. Heading B3P. A metal extrusion press has a billet receiver 7, Fig. 2, slidable along the extrusion axis, a die holder 1 mounted for transverse movement on the press bolster 2, and a die assembly 3 mounted in a guide 10 of the die holder and arranged to be moved axially against the direction of extrusion to leave a space 11, Fig. 3 (not shown), downstream of the die for introduction of a discard severing tool. Die holder 1 is reciprocated transversely by means 5 to position the die assembly into the extrusion axis or into an inoperative position adjacent a die magazine 4. During extrusion the die assembly 3 is pressed against a backing member 8 by the receiver 7, but after extrusion, when the receiver has been retracted, Fig. 3 (not shown), the die assembly is moved against shoulders 12 by fluid pressure rams 13 to expose a space 11 into which is admitted a saw 9, Fig. 1 (not shown) for severing off the discard. The guide 10 permits the die assembly to be moved vertically into the magazine 4.
