964,009. Extruding. L. SCHULER A.G. Jan. 6, 1961 [Jan. 16, 1960], No. 639/61. Heading B3P. A horizontal backward extrusion press has at least two similar punches acting alternately or successively. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, a pair of punches 42, 43 are mounted on a punch holder 41 pivoted about a fulcrum 40 to bring the punches alternately into line with a die 44. After extrusion of cup-shaped article 46, the punch is swung into its inoperative position where a stripper 45, 49 removes the article 46. Either the die or the punchholder may be reciprocated. More than two punch and die assemblies may be provided. In another embodiment, Fig. 3, eight punches 51; 51 mounted on a punch-holder 50 cooperate with four dies 53 in a die-holder 52. After extrusion either the punch-holder and the die-holder is indexed to bring the four previously operative punches opposite recesses 54 between the dies whereupon the extruded articles are stripped by means 55. Either the punch or the die-holder is reciprocated.
