Abstract
108,452. Etrich, I. July 29, 1916, [Convention date]. Breaking and scutching apparatus.-The stricks of flax are fed along a table n, Fig. 1, and placed by a workman across a rotating ring R<1>, the free ends resting on a travelling band e travelling in the same direction as the ring. The ends of the stricks are pressed into grooves r, Fig. 2, in the ring by elastic cords s running over guide-pulleys l, pressure being supplied by a chain of blocks k, which are guided by wheels c, carried by levers h controlled by springs a, and by a return channel c<1>. The stricks, as they are carried round by the ring R<1>, are held in an horizontal position by a plate e<1> and are guided by a roller f to a scutching-apparatus m. The scutched ends of the stricks are conveyed to a second ring R<2> by rollers f and band e<3> where they are gripped as in the first ring. The unscutched ends are then released from the first ring and passed over a guide e<4> and rollers f to a second scutching apparatus m<1>. The material may then be removed or be passed round one or more other pairs of rings.
