17,070. Young, G. C. G., and Waddell, M. M. Aug. 4. Heckling - machines for flax &c. The strickholders B are moved intermittently along fixed channels A, and the stricks are heckled on both sides by heckle bars d carried by travelling chains D<2>, which are void of heckle bars over a portion of their length so that the strick-holder may be freely advanced when these portions come opposite the strick. The heckle bars are successively finer, complete heckling being thereby effected in one revolution of the heckle sheets, and the machine shortened and consequently rendered suitable for the application of automatic feed and delivery apparatus. Rollers G may be mounted on the chains between the heckle bars, and pressed outwards by springs bearing against guides K or otherwise, so as to grip the strick when it is acted upon by the pins. The rollers may be freely mounted or driven in either direction. Stripping and doffing apparatus is applied to each sheet.
