Abstract
1,082,521. Priming centrifugal pumps. WISSENSCHAFTLICH-TECHNISCHE ZENTRUM (WTZ) PUMPEN UND VERDICHTER VEB. Oct. 12, 1964, No. 41568/64. Heading F1C. In a self-priming centrifugal pump having a rotor surrounded by a spiral-shaped guide arrangement (comprising either a volute or a ring of diffuser blades), priming is effected by a circulation of auxiliary liquid from a return duct to the rotor so as to arrive at a part of the inlet crosssection of the rotor having an area approximately 1/50 to 2/3 of the entire inlet cross-section. As shown in Fig. 4, the auxiliary liquid may be fed to the rotor through a pipe 31' which may be axially withdrawable from the rotor, the inlet port 32 of the pipe being closed when the pipe is withdrawn. The auxiliary liquid may instead be fed to the rotor as a free jet (29), Fig. 3 (not shown) or via a guide rib (28), Fig. 2 (not shown), projecting into the rotor eye.
