Abstract

1,076,003. Making grid electrodes. COMPAGNIE FRANCAISE DE TELEVISION. June 23, 1965 [June 25, 1964], No. 26678/65. Headings B3A and B3E. A method of making a flat grid for a cathoderay tube comprises the steps of winding a wire about two parallel grooved winding rods 2 to form two parallel sheets of wires, tensioning the sheets of wires over parallel positioning rods 14 to form a single sheet of wires which can be fastened to a grid frame 9, the surplus wire outside the grid frame then being trimmed off. The winding rods 2 are mounted on channel members 1 which can be rotated about a shaft 4, Fig. 1, to make the winding. This assembly is thon placed in a mounting frame 12 to which it is fixed by bolts passing through holes 5, Fig. 1. The wires then pass over the grooved positioning rods 14 and are tensioned by further rods 18 which are forced downwards by screws 22. The grid frame which rests on screws 15 is then raised by means of these screws until it is close to, but not necessarily touching, the wires and sealed to the wires by any conventional method. A preferred method consists in depositing enamel 23 on the wires and fusing the enamel in a furnace, electrical connection to the wires being ensured by a metallized layer (24, Fig. 6). Sealing by this method has the advantage that the sheet remains plane even if the grid frame is not flat (Fig. 6). In order to avoid a difference in tension in the wires when the surplus wire is cut away the grid frame 9 may be pre-stressed by means of a rod (10, Fig. 2) which is removed after sealing the wires to the grid frame.
