Abstract
1,039,198. Electron guns. SYLVANIA ELECTRIC PRODUCTS Inc. Nov. 18, 1964 [Nov. 18, 1963], No. 46922/64. Heading H1D. An electron gun structure comprises a plurality of electrodes 10, 11, 12, 13 spaced axially and having a number of support openings in the electrodes 11, 12, or in support members 20, 22 fixed to the electrodes 10, 13, and a number of tubular insulator posts 15 extending through the support openings and having an external transverse dimension between electrodes greater than the transverse dimension of each support opening. As shown, electrode 10 is a cathode assembly, and electrodes 11, 12 may be control grids and electrode 13 an accelerator grid in a cathode-ray tube. The posts may be of thermoplastic material such as glass. The sealed tubes forming the posts are inserted in the openings and the assembly heated so that the posts expand to grip the electrodes or supports, then the assembly is cooled to allow the posts to harden. The posts 15 may be filled with a material such as a potting compound to increase the strength and rigidity of the assembly.
