Abstract
956,956. Producing grid electrodes; winding wire grids; brazing. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION. Dec. 28, 1962 [Feb. 9, 1962], No. 48897/62. Headings B3A, B3E and B3R. A method of making a grid electrode for an electronic discharge device comprises the steps of coating a frame 22 with copper and then gold, winding a number of turns of fine gold plated wire 30 on the frame, heating the frame and wire to a temperature sufficient to make the gold and copper in the frame go into solid solutions, the solutions being rich enough in gold to prevent the gold from the wire turns from being dissolved, and cooling the frame and wire to secure the turns in place. The wire may be of tungsten and the frame of molybdenum, and the heating takes place in a hydrogen or amino-gas atmosphere at about 930‹ C. Two frames 24 are held in a jig 40 and the wire wound round both of them before the whole assembly is heated.
