[Also in Group XXII] A grid is wound of a wire 2 having a coating 3, the coating being subsequently removed, either wholly or in part. If removed wholly, it may be necessary to tighten the grid again by stretching the frame members 1. The coating may be silver (on a gold, platinum or aluminium core), or molybdenum (on a tungsten core), or aluminium. The coating may be removed by chemical, electrical, or thermal means. Sufficient of the coating may be left to provide a focusing effect. The frame members 1 may have sharp edges, Fig. 4, to facilitate exact spacing.
