Abstract
770,817. Making grid electrodes. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. June 9, 1955, No. 16562/55. Class 83 (2). In a method of making grid electrodes for electric discharge devices the support rods 7, 8, Fig. 2, are work-hardened to prevent bowing. The rods may be placed over a mandrel and compressed in a toggle press or hammered by eccentric cams over the region between the mica insulations 9, 10. The rods may be workhardened before the grids 6 are wound on, or the process may be used to swage the grid wires into position during winding. When the grid has to be annealed for subsequent bending the work-hardening may be carried out after the annealing. In a modification, rods 17, Fig. 4, are flattened with tapered ends which may be wedged into the insulators 18, 19.
