Abstract
570,623. Glass dies. CONCORDIA ELECTRIC WIRE CO., Ltd., and FOX, G. N. Oct. 15, 1943, No. 16968. [Class 56] [Also in Group V] A glass die is made by embedding a metallic wire in a matrix of the glass and subsequently removing the wire by chemical or electrolytic action. The wire is embedded by fusing or moulding the matrix around the wire. Thus, a tube 1 is drawn to a reduced diameter, a metal wire 2 is inserted, the tube is fused on-to the wire, and the wire is removed by dissolving it in nitric acid or by making it an anode in an electrolyte. The wire has preferably the same coefficient of expansion as the tube. Flat disc-like dies may be made.
