Abstract

1,060,669. Stripping conductors. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Nov. 13, 1964 [Nov. 19, 1963], No. 45597/63. Heading H2C. A tool for parting portions of insulating covering, e.g. of P.V.C., from a conductor includes jaws 3, 4 of which at least one is movable, to crush and thereby split the insulating material along the length of a portion and members at the ends of the jaws for facilitating the parting of the insulating material at the ends of the portion after the crushing operation. In the tool shown in Fig. 1, after the insulation has been split, blades 11, 12 are moved outwardly, against the action of spring 16, by rods 15 to stretch and remove the insulation. The blades may be operated manually, hydraulically or pneumatically as are the jaws. By using suitable width jaws, a number of insulated conductors can be operated on simultaneously. In one modification (Fig. 3, not shown), more than two jaws are used. In another modification (Fig. 4, not shown), the blades have cutaway portions to fit round a conductor and are moved towards the centre of the conductor instead of along it.
