Abstract

972,675. Pliers. M. D. TOWNSEND, and L. B. K. TOWNSEND. March 22, 1963 [Jan. 3, 1962], No. 324/62. Heading B4W. [Also in Division H2] A pair of pliers for stripping the insulation from a cable over a length intermediate its ends has a pair of jaws 6, 6a so mounted as to move parallel when handles 3 are pressed, each jaw carrying a pair of horizontally spaced cutters 7 so that the insulation is severed circumferentially at two spaced points, and a longitudinal cutter 17 which cuts the insulation lengthways, thus facilitating its removal. Jaws 6, 6a are each provided with a cut-out portion at their centre to avoid nicking the conductor. The severed portions may be removed by a jet of compressed air and severing blades may be mounted intermediate the end blades to cut through the core. The stripper may be constituted as a bench tool with relatively movable jaws.
