Abstract
931,338. Stripping cables. LUMALAMPAN A.B. Aug. 28, 1959 [Aug. 30, 1958], No. 29493/59. Class 36. [Also in Group XXII] Cable ends are prepared by apparatus which severs the cable, simultaneously cuts through the insulation at a required distance from the severed end, rotates the length of insulation to be removed to twist together the strands of the conductor and slides the cut portion of insulation off the end of the conductor. Cable 1 is fed through rollers 2, 3 past a tong-like gripping device 4, through a sleeve 5, a rotary knife 6 and another tong-like gripping device 7. The rotary knife 6 is in two parts 6a and 6b operated by electromagnets 10a and 10b. The knife comprises severing blades 8, and insulation stripping blades 9 which may be arranged as separate units and may be adjustable in relation to the blades 8. After severance of the cable the rotation of the knife 6 causes rotation of the cut pieces of insulation and hence twisting of the wire strands of the subsequently bared ends. The gripping devices 4 and 7 then grip the cable and pull the two portions axially apart, so removing the insulation pieces which are held back within the knife. The electromagnet assembly is mounted on a driving wheel 11 supported on a bearing 12, the solenoids being energized through sliprings 14. Instead of the cable lengths being pulled apart to effect stripping the knife units may be arranged to move and strip the ends one at a time.
