Abstract

107,545. Hawxhurst, J. J., and Nicolai, E. F. June 24, 1916. Spray carburettors. - The carburettor is of the kind in which a preliminary rich mixture obtained by the suction of air past a fuel nozzle 18 is subsequently diluted by a secondary air supply controlled by an air valve 32 dependent upon the engine suction and upon the pressure in a dash-pot chamber The annular dash-not chamber 35 is formed between the air valve 32 and the casing 3, and communicates with the suction duct and the atmosphere by restricted apertures 39, 40, so that a limited supply of air passes through the chamber. The aperture 40 may be controlled by a screw valve 43 and an inwardly opening check valve 42. The air valve 32 has a depending rim 36 opposite the air inlets 27, and closes upon an adjustable seating 23, 24. The valve 32 may carry a needle valve 37 controlling the fuel nozzle 18, and the primary air-supply passage 7 may communciate with the atmosphere or with a source of heated air. Specification 107,618 is referred to.
