Abstract

A process, for controlling the amount of twist in a yarn per unit length as the yarn is fed continuously to an apparatus-for example a friction guide, tensioning device, or a pair of nip rolls, used in stuffer box, edge, or gear crimping, or in twisting, plying, winding, warping, sizing or knitting-having a tendency to back up the twist and periodically to allow the backed-up twist to surge through the apparatus, consists of passing the yarn to the apparatus along a path composed of a plurality of arcuate portions formed by a plurality of spaced rotatable rollers, the furthermost down-stream roller being located closely adjacent to the apparatus. The process is specially described with respect to stuffer box crimping. The rollers-two in numberare adjustably mounted on a carriage which also supports a yarn guide which is positioned just upstream of the nip of the rolls of the stuffer box.
