Abstract

1,150,552. Crimping yarn. KLINGER MFG. CO. Ltd. 4 May, 1966 [9 Feb., 1965], No. 5673/65. Heading D1F. Yarn 13 is passed through a heating zone 12 and then through a false twist device 21, the arrangement being such that the time taken for the yarn to travel from the heating zone to the false twist device is at least as great as the time taken for the yarn to travel through the heating zone. Heating device 12 is preferably arranged to be hotter at the end first contacted by the yarn. Nip rollers 14, 15 draw the yarn from the creel 10 and nip rollers 23, 24 draw the yarn through the false twist device; the required tension of the yarn during the heating and twisting process is obtained by adjusting the relative speed of the pairs of nip rollers. In Fig. 2, not shown, the yarn passes upwardly over the surface of a heater (38) from the cooler to the hotter end, is false twisted by a tube (41) and is repeatedly passed about parallel rollers (44, 45) roller (45) being engaged and driven by a further roller (46). The yarn then passes via a guide (49) downwardly over the heater and is guided upwardly to a false twist tube (52) where false twist is inserted in a direction opposite to that inserted by the tube (40). The yarn is then forwarded by the roller arrangement (44, 45, 46) to be wound up. The guide (49) is adjustable so that the distance over which the yarn contacts the heater on its second run is adjustable. Examples are given with numerical data.
