Jib cranes. - To obtain a horizontal travel of the load when l u ffi n g , and when employing more than one fall of the hoisting rope between the jib head and the load, one part of the hoisting rope E is led back over a fixed guide pulley D and then coiled upon a drum 0 of larger diameter and fast with or geared to the luffing drum J. The guide-pulley D is situated above the jib foot at a height approximately equal to the length of the jib divided by 3.4 and slightly in front of the jib foot. The luffing rope I passes from the jib head over a pulley coaxial with the pulley D to the luffing drum J and over the fixed pulley K to carry the counterweight L. The drum 0 is four times the diameter of the drum J, or is driven four times as fast, or when a two-part luffing rope is employed the drum 0 is twice the diameter of the drum J. When six falls of hoist rope between the snatch block M and the block G are employed and there is a six-part luffing rope, the diameter of the drum 0 is two and two-thirds that of the drum J.
