Abstract

1,069,215. Oscillating vane actuators. HOUDAILLE INDUSTRIES Inc. Dec. 8, 1964, No. 49939/64. Heading F1F. An oscillating vane hydraulic actuator, particularly for use in steering gear installations, e.g., the castor shaft on a tractor front end, comprises a shaft 5, Fig. 3 splined to a member 11 having diametral vanes 32 oscillatable between diametrically located abutments (30), Fig. 2, (not shown) secured by dowel pins (31) to body flanges 24, 21 of a two-part stationary housing secured with limited movement in a fixed supporting structure 8 surrounding the shaft 5. The shaft 5 is supported in tapered bearings 9 mounted within a hub portion 7 of the structure 8 which projects with circumferential clearance into the body flange 21 and with end and circumferential clearance in a recess 33 in the member 11. Pins 50 rigidly projecting from the mounting structure 8 are received in resilient bushes 53 having enclosing ferrules 54 closely fitting sockets 51 in bosses 52 formed on the body flange 21. Ports (35), (37), Fig. 2, connected via annular grooves (38) and radial grooves (39), (40) respectively alternately supply and exhaust hydraulic pressure fluid to opposite sides of the abutments (30) to oscillate the member 11. Cross-over passages (43) on opposite sides of the vanes 32 are fitted with ball check valves (48) to give one-way pressure relief.
