An oscillating disc pump or meter comprises a part-spherical casing having an outer spherical surface 46, Fig. 1, and inner spherical surfaces 44, 45 co-operable with half-shells 7, 8 formed with disc parts 5, 6 which co-operate with the surface 46 and conical casing surfaces 20, 21 The half-shells 7, 8 enclose a spherical fulcrum 9 carried on a pin 10 and carry a crank-pin 4 supported by a ball-bearing 16 mounted in a housing 15 whose position may be adjusted with respect to a fork 2 by means of an adjusting screw 11 to vary the loading on a spring 3. The fork 2 is carried on a driven or drive shaft 1 in axial alignment with the pin 10. Adjustment of the screw 11 permits rational application of the oscillating disc parts 5, 6 against the conical faces 20, 21 of the casing which also includes a separation plate 43 preventing rotation of the disc parts 5, 6 and inlet and discharge parts so that on oscillation of the disc parts, fluid is pumped or metered through chambers 48, 50. In another embodiment, a pointed adjusting screw 28, Fig. 2, passing axially through the driven or drive shaft engages a plunger 25 loaded by Belleville washers 29 which engage the inner surface of a bearing ring 30. Adjustment of the screw 28 moves the plunger 25 in its bore. In a further embodiment the disc parts are faced with resilient discs having a plurality of recessed slits to provide radial and circumferential ribs.
