Abstract

1,237,501. Reciprocating pumps or motors. CESSNA AIRCRAFT CO. July 23, 1969 [Aug. 19, 1968], No.37029/69. Heading F1A. In a swash plate pump or motor, the rotary cylinder block 20 is adjustably located on the drive shaft 15 with a predetermined maximum clearance between its ported face 19 and the ported valve face 38 of casing back plate 13. A collar 45 screwed on shaft 15 has a flange 50 either engageable directly with the right hand side of a snap ring 48 on the cylinder block, or, as shown, engaged, together with ring 48, by a washer 47 against which a spring 41 biasing piston shoes 26 against swash plate 33 reacts. Collar 45 has slots 51 for engagement by a tool for setting the clearance between faces 19 and 38, the setting being effected before assembly of plate 13 to casing 10. Spring 41 acts on shoes 26 via washer 42, rods 43, bearing 31 and spider 30. In Fig. 2 (not shown), an assembly of shims and washers is located between snap rings on the cylinder block and shaft to set the clearance, and springs located in inclined or axial bores in the cylinder block act between a snap ring on the shaft and a flange on bearing 31.
