Abstract

1,036,114. Hydraulic reciprocating pumps and motors. SUNSTRAND INTERNATIONAL CORPORATION S.A. July 19, 1963 [July 27, 1962], No. 28632/63. Heading F1A. In a swash plate pump or motor comprising a rotatable cylinder block 14 splined on a drive shaft 12, and pistons 21, 22, Fig. 2 (not shown), engaging a tiltable swash plate 32 through bearing slippers 33, 34, a plate 35 holds the slippers against the swash plate and is biased there-against by a series of springs 37, 38 acting between drive shaft 12 and a member 36 engaging plate 35, cylinder block 14 being biased against a valve plate 52 by a spring 43. Springs 37, 38 exert approximately double the force of spring 43, all the springs acting against a collar 41 axially located on shaft 12. Alternatively, springs 37, 38 may be axially disposed. Splines 13 connecting block 14 to shaft 12 are contoured to permit slight tilting of the block, which engages valve plate 52, e.g. of hardened steel, through a bearing plate 51, e.g. of bronze. Cylinders 22, 23 have bearing inserts 25 supporting the pistons. Operating clearance is provided during assembly by bolting on housing cover 11 to crush a washer 55, a gasket 18 then being inserted between cover 11 and housing 10 to provide the required clearance, e.g. 0À0001 inch.
