Abstract

1370474 Reciprocating pumps and motors CESSNA AIRCRAFT CO 15 Nov 1971 [9 Dec 1970] 52904/71 Heading F1A In an axial piston pump or motor comprising a rotary cylinder block 18 engaging a ported valve face 21, and pistons 28 engaging an inclined or inclinable cam plate 17, tilting of the block relative to the valve face is prevented by drivingly connecting the block to drive-shaft 13 by flat splines 19, 43, locating the end 42 of the cylinder block at the point of intersection with the driveshaft axis of the plane 40 containing the centres of the piston ball joints 29, and supporting the drive-shaft by bearings 14, 15 so that its point of maximum transverse deflection due to the transverse piston thrust is located between the valve face end of the spline connection and the valve face end of the block. Under shaft deflection, end 42 of the block is supported by the splines so that the block moves transversely relative to the valve face but does not tilt, Figs. 3 and 5A (not shown). Rods 36 transmitting bias from spring 35 to piston shoes 30 are located between the splines, Fig. 4 (not shown).
