Abstract

1,063,761. Yarn tensioning apparatus. SOCIETE RHODIACETA. Jan. 27, 1965 [Feb. 12, 1964], No. 3668/65. Heading DID. A device for maintaining a constant tension in a yarn comprises a cylinder rotated at a peripheral speed greater than the rate at which the yarn travels and in the same direction, means to guide the yarn to travel through at least one arc in contact with the cylinder and including at least two yarn guides mounted so as to move when the tension rises so as to increase the length of at least one of the arcs, and means tending to move the guides in a direction which decreases the length of the arc. Yarn 6 passes over a driven roller (1), guides (2<SP>1</SP>, 2) and over the roller again. Roller 1 is driven faster than the yarn travels and the guides (2, 2<SP>1</SP>) which may be pulleys are on arms (3, 3<SP>1</SP>) which can rock about pivots (4, 4<SP>1</SP>) against the pull of a spring (5) when the tension rises, to increase the extent which the yarn embraces the roller. The value of the working tension may be set by varying the force of the spring, or by changing the roller for one with a different surface. The spring may be replaced by a counterweight, a pneumatic device or an electromagnetic device. In another form the yarn enters and leaves the device over fixed guides arranged respectively before and after the guides (2, 2<SP>1</SP>), the yarn in this case making one arc of contact with the roller.
