Abstract

722,348. Winding yarn. RAWSON & SONS, Ltd., J., and FREELAND, C. A. April 8, 1953 [April 28, 1952], No. 10611/52. Class 120 (2). Apparatus for winding yarn, &c., includes a pulley, &c., 3 between the supply 1 and a winding spindle &c., 13, means, e.g. wire guides 9 for guiding the yarn into contact with the pulley surface, means for driving the pulley 3 at a greater surface speed than the winding speed of the yarn, &c., and a tension regulator 10, 11, 12 between the pulley 3 and the spindle 13. The pulley 3, driven from the spindle by a pulley 8, is preferably detachable from a separate unit carried by a bracket 7 fixed to the driving head so that the pulley can be replaced by another and the drive to the pulley is preferably adjustable. In an alternative arrangement, the driving surface portion only of the pulley 3 is replaceable by another with a different frictional coefficient.
