In a recording instrument in which chart paper 13 is fed at constant speed from a supply roll 14, across and internally of a glazed opening 3 in a hinged or removable closure member 2 of the casing 1, to a re-wind drum 25, and is marked by a pen 42 displaceable substantially at right angles to the travel of the paper in response to variations in the factor being recorded, the roll 14 and drum 25 are carried by a pivoted frame which may be swung about its pivotal axis (see Fig. 3) to expose the interior of the casing, the pen being located between this axis and a side of the casing. As shown, this frame is of channel section comprising a front wall 5 and top and bottom flanges 6 and 7, Figs. 3 and 5, from which project pivot pins 8 and 9, Fig. 1, and also carries a feed drum 17 driven by an electric motor 18. The drum 25 is driven from 17 through a slipping clutch transmission comprising pulleys 35, 36 connected by a tensioned band 37. The paper 13 is guided from the removable roll 14 to the drum 17 by a pivoted spring-loaded plate 21, Fig. 5, and is automatically fed to and around the drum 25 under control of a cylindrical-like cage comprising a plate 27 fixed to frame flanges 6, 7 and plates 28, 29 fixed to pivoted arms 30, Fig. 3, which also carry a pressure roller 31. The pivotal movement of the frame is normally prevented by a spring-urged catch 38 engaging a pin 40 fixed to the casing 1. Specification 691,350 is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
