Abstract

A method of forming a non-abrasive heat resistant metal layer on a cast body in which the layer is metal sprayed on to a core, which is positioned in a mould, and is transferred from the core to the article cast in the mould when the core is removed after casting. The cast metal is of Aluminium or Al-alloy including various proportions of Si, Mg, Cu, Mn and Fe. The non-abrasive metal layer may be of various steels such as Chrome steel, High Carbon Steel, Nickel-Chrome-Manganese Steel or Molybdenum Steel which may include other ingredients such as Carbon, Phosphorous, Sulphur and iron. Specific compositions are given in tables 3 and 4 (not shown).
