Abstract

In making aluminium or other light-metal castings having iron, steel or other heavy metal inserts, these are first degreased and de-oxidized and then immersed in a bath of a zinc-containing aluminium alloy at 580 DEG -850 DEG C. The zinc content should not exceed 20 per cent: a suitable alloy both for the bath and for casting the body of the article is zinc 6-10 per cent, copper 0.4, iron 0.15, magnesium 0.7, silicon 0.15, titanium 0.15, chromium 0.25, manganese 0.1 and aluminium the remainder.
