Abstract

1,058,913. Rear view mirrors. GEBR. HAPPICH G.m.b.H. March 17, 1965 [March 2, 1965], No. 11324/65. Heading B7J. [Also in Division E2] A vehicle driving mirror comprises a glass 1 fitted into a one-piece backing 3 made of resilient plastics material, the whole being swivellingly supported on an arm 14 fitted with the ball 15 of ball-and-socket joint, the socket consisting of a mirror-side half socket, 9 and a concave ring-shaped face 13 of a fitment 10 which screws into the mirror back, thereby securing the ball. The half socket 9 is formed in a pedestal 8 projecting from the base 7 of a pot-shaped recess 5 which extends into the space between the mirror back and the glass. The cylindrical wall G of the recess is threaded to take the fitment 10 which has at its outer end a flange 11 which bears against a rubber washer 16. To enable the fitment 10 to be adjusted holes 7 are provided for a pin-ended spanner. In a further embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), it is the wall of the pedestal 8 that is threaded to receive the fitment 10, and the flange 11 extends into a recess 23 in the external face of the mirror backing 3.
