Abstract

1,096,463. Vehicle mirrors. RAYDYOT Ltd. Oct. 22, 1965 [Dec. 10, 1964], No. 50282/64. Heading B7J. A vehicle mirror comprises a generally paraboloidal or conical casing 10 of spun or drawn metal secured to a die-cast foot 11 for attachment to the vehicle wing (not shown) and provided with a mirror head comprising a metal disc 20, a silvered glass disc 19 and a foamed plastics block 21 held together by a beading 22, the mirror head being disposed in a plastics cup 12, and a ball-joint being provided between the head and the cup base 16 and comprising a part spherical recess at the centre of the cup base 16, engaged by a cup washer 24 engaging a part spherical ball joint part of the metal disc 20, engaged by a second cup washer 25 which is engageable by a nut 26 on a rod 23 when a screw nut 28 is screwed on to the rod 23 so as to clamp the mirror head in a chosen position. The rod 23 is flattened at 27 to key into the base of the cup 12 and prevent rotation of the rod. A metal spacing tube 18 engages a spigot part 17 of the cup 12. The cup 12 has a U- section rim 13 which embraces the rim of the casing 10 and which has a projection between the limbs of the U engaging a notch 14, Fig. 2 (not shown), to locate the cup angularly. The cup 12 is ribbed at 15. Spring washers (32) may be threaded over the rod.
