The forward and reverse stitch cams 3, 3' are adjustably controlled by a series of individually adjustable cams 12 influencing a lever 14 having on the ends of the cams to determine their position. The cams 12 are adjustable secured to a slide 11 which is displace able to effect a change in the stitch cam positions and the stitch effect. A collective adjustment of the cams is achieved by a screw adjustment 8 of the mounting 4 carrying the slide 11 so that the slide is capable of being moved slightly both transversely and towards and away from the knockover comb whereby fine adjustments of the stitch cams is obtained.
