Abstract
1,058,093. ion-getter pumps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Dec. 1, 1964 [Jan. 2, 1964], No. 48813/64. Heading H1D. An ion-getter pump has a cellular anode 16 and two cellular cathodes 17, 18 (not shown), the cathode cells having openings smaller than those of the anode cells, the electrode assembly being supported within housing 14 by a support 19 spanning and releasably secured to the housing, an insulator 21, attached to the support 19 and having a sputter shield 24, supporting the cathodes. Material sputtered from the cathode is deposited on the housing for gas entrapment. Electrical connection to the cathode is by way of a connector, Fig. 1 (not shown), having a ceramic sleeve 43, an electrical stud rod 40 concentrically disposed within the sleeve and a cap 45 fixed to the outer end of the rod and the sleeve. The pump housing is of rectangular shape having a transitional region 14 to connect with a circular flange 12. A magnetic field perpendicular to the plane of the anode and cathodes is provided.
