Abstract

An aluminium alloy suitable for die-casting (see Division B3) must contain no more than 0.5% of iron and preferably contains 0.35 - 0.65% magnesium. The example alloy disclosed comprises:- .Cn.3.7% .Fe.0.14% .Si.8.2% .Mn.0.02% .Mg.0.45% .Zn.0.02% .Ti.0.05% the balance being aluminium. The cast member is preferably solution treated at 890 DEG to 960 DEG F. quenched in water and aged at 300 DEG to 350 DEG F.
