Abstract
A continuously cast steel comprises: .C.0.01-0.08% .Mn.0.2 - 0.6% .Si.0.3 - 0.08% .Al not over 0.015%. the balance apart from incidental impurities (e.g. S and P) being iron. Preferred compositions are such that the Si content + 0.1 times the Mn content is not less than the C content. The steel may be hot rolled (roughly at 1920-2015 DEG F. and finishing at 1520 - 1665 DEG F.) and annealed at 1265 - 1290 DEG F.
