Abstract

1,056,648. Seats. UNIVERSAL OIL PRODUCTS CO. July 13, 1965, No. 29625/65. Heading A4J. A passenger seat comprises a lower frame 7 fixed to a base 4 and an upper seat frame 6 movable longitudinally with respect to the lower seat frame. A back rest comprises a frame member 23 pivoted at 24 to upstanding arms 25 on frame 7 and telescopic members 16, 17 pivoted at 18 to a back member 19. The telescopic member 16 is pivoted at 15 to upstanding arms 6a on the upper seat frame 6. The telescopic members permit longitudinal movement of the upper seat frame 6 with respect to the lower seat frame 7 without moving the back members 19, 23. The pivot 15 is substantially above the horizontal plane level of the upper seat frame 6 and is caused to travel in a line parallel to the upper seat frame 6. A resilient member 22 is provided to support the head of the passenger. The upper and lower seat frame members 6, 7 are held in a fixed relationship by a brake shoe 34, Fig. 7 (not shown) which is releasable through linkage by a lever 14 mounted in a seat arm 1. The pivots 15, 24 allow the seat back to be folded over, Fig. 4 (not shown).
