897,142. Seats. JAGUAR CARS Ltd. Nov. 28, 1959, No. 40528/59. Class 52(2) [Also in Group XXV] In a vehicle seat, a telescopic stay 6, 8 acting through arm 5 holds the back rest 2 in any one of a number of angular positions between the vertical and horizontal. The teeth 13 of pawl 10 project from member 8 and engage holes 14 in member 6 to prevent the former from sliding within the latter. A push rod 20 controlled by handle 15 moves wedge 21 to lift pawl 10 and allow relative movement of members 6 and 8. Spring 23 returns handle 15 and allows teeth 13 to re-engage holes 14. Tension spring 24 biases the back seat 2 towards the upright position. A coupling rod connected to handle 15 ensures simultaneous operation of a telescopic stay provided on the other side of the seat.
