Abstract
1,051,091. High frequency heating arrangemerits. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 6, 1964 [March 11, 1963], No. 9600/64. Heading H5H. The efficiency of a high frequency furnace of the type in which a strip 1 to be heated is passed through folded waveguide systems 15, 16, 17 supplied from magnetrons 2, 3, 4 through waveguides 5, 6, 7, is increased by providing further folded waveguides 8, 9, 10 for initially heating the strip 1, these waveguides being connected as shown to the waveguides 15, 16, 17 and having a spacing between their walls lesser than that of the waveguides 15, 16, 17. This connection of the waveguides 8, 9, 10 to 15, 16, 17 ensures even loading of the magnetrons 2, 3, 4, which have short-circuit plungers 12, 13, 14 for impedance-matching with the load presented by the strip 1. Typical design data is given for the various components, together with a comparison between the basic arrangement and that shown in the Figure.
