982,171. Waveguides. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. Oct. 23, 1963 [Oct. 26, 1962], No. 41855/63. Heading H1W. [Also in Division H5] In a microwave oven comprising a folded waveguide 4 having apertures 5 for the passage of wire or foil 6 to be heated, radiation loss from the apertures is reduced by dividing the waveguide, by a partition 7, into two sections 8, 9 which share the energy from a magnetron 1. The partition is extended at 15 by ¢#. # may be 12 cms. The magnetron is coupled by coaxial conductor 13 to a connecting waveguide 14 which is closed by an adjustable load matching piston 16. The divider 15 may be rigid and centrally or non-centrally disposed, or it may be pivoted and hence adjustable, to allow for changes in the characteristics of material 6 as it is heated, e.g. in the case of glued foils. Dimensions are given for a 5 K.w. unit.
