Abstract

A gas in flowing from a chamber 1 to a steam ejector (not shown) is cooled in a chamber 3 by water sprays 5 arranged on the periphery of the chamber to condense out metallic vapours which are removed through an outlet 9. Water is supplied to the spray nozzle from a reservoir 7 through pipes 6 containing a valve 11 which is closed when the steam ejector is inoperative.
