Abstract
Stress crack corrosion of a structure subject in use to exposure to sea water is prevented by making the structure from a stable austenitic steel consisting of:- .Mn.12-30%, .Si.up to 2%, .C.0.05-1.2%, .Fe.the remainder The steel may also contain Cr up to 0.5% and up to 2% each of Cu, Mo and/or Ni.
