Abstract

1,045,924. Travelling gantries. WILLIAM E. FARRER Ltd. March 29, 1965 [April 9, 1964], No. 14657/64. Heading B8E. A travelling gantry structure 10 spans a pair of sewage settlement tanks 11, 12 and includes a carriage 13 supported on wheels 15 running on a track 14 formed by rails 16 on a wall driving the tanks 11, 12. Projecting on opposite sides of the carriage 13 is a pair of gantry portions 17, 18, each provided with a supporting wheel 19 engaging the respective outer wall 20. An endless driving element in the form of a roller chain 21, Fig. 2 (not shown), is housed in the carriage 13 and is carried by a pair of sprockets 22. A further sprocket (not shown), connected to an electric motor 24, engages the lower run of the chain 21 midway along its length. Pivot-pins 23 interconnecting adjacent links of the chain 21 are extended in both directions and co-act with a series of abutments 25 spaced along the track 14. The upper edge of each abutment 25 is formed with double teeth so arranged that each abutment 25 engages a pair of adjacent pivot-pins 23. The endless driving element may be in the form of a pair of spaced chains interconnected by tierods (not shown). The intermediate driving sprocket may be omitted and one of the sprockets 22 driven. A single gantry structure may span three or more tanks with interconnected drive means in carriages on each dividing wall to prevent skewing.
