962,154. Chain gearing. HARRY FERGUSON RESEARCH Ltd. Aug. 31, 1960 [Sept. 8, 1959], No. 30555/59. Heading F2Q. In a chain drive for an engine cam-shaft or the road wheels of a vehicle, wherein each sprocket e.g. 13 comprises a number of individual sprockets 10A and 10C side by side lapped by separate driving chains 12, the teeth on adjacent sprockets 10A and 10C are staggered a fraction of a tooth pitch, either by use of an appropriate number of internal splines or bolt holes in the sprockets. With three sprockets, as shown, three internal splines per tooth are used to stagger the sprockets by one third of a tooth pitch.
